Duignan’s Visual Monitoring and Evaluation Planning
Traditional monitoring and evaluation plans are too long and inaccessible. Stakeholders find it hard to have any real input into them. Using a visual monitoring and evaluation plan is much more efficient.
Visual monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) plans
Ideal for today’s fast-moving environment, visual monitoring and evaluation plans can be developed much faster, allow a more transparent and robust assessment of the monitoring and evaluation design, and mean that the design can be communicated and amended faster. If a lengthy traditional M&E plan is still required, one can easily be written once the design work has been done and captured within a visual monitoring and evaluation plan.
Putting evaluation questions and projects onto an evaluation plan
You can map evaluation questions and detail the projects that will answer them onto an outcomes model or strategy diagram (a specific type of visual intervention logic). (8 min).
Putting Indicators into a Monitoring and Evaluation Plan
You can also put indicators onto an outcomes model or strategy diagram when building a visual monitoring and evaluation plan (6 min).
Building a strategy diagram/outcomes model for an M&E plan
A visual monitoring and evaluation plan is built around a Duignan multi-layered strategy diagram/outcomes model. This is a particular type of intervention logic that is optimal for building a visual monitoring and evaluation plan. This video shows you how to build such a diagram. They can be built as either bottom-to-top diagrams as in this video, or are also often drawn as left-to-right diagrams.
